Super Seconds Festival Shout Out - Abby Sumner

I once again have the great privilege of taking part in the fabulous Super Seconds Festival organised by Sophie at Ink & Bear on 1st and 2nd April this year, mark that date in your diary folks!! Being part of Super Seconds is an utter joy and was definitely a highlight for me at the end of last year, as well as the boost in sales, which in these difficult times is a life saver, it's the wonderful and supportive community of makers that Sophie has helped to bring together that really make the event shine. There is a real air of excitement in the lead up to the big weekend everyone is cheering each other on, getting excited about each others work and just being thoroughly good eggs. So in the spirit of the occasion I have decided to put together a blog series highlighting just a small selection of the incredible 250 makers that are taking part, first up is the talented and joyfully colourful work of Abby Sumner.
Abby is a printmaker and multidisciplinary designer creating colourful risograph prints, greetings cards and stationery. Her studio is based in Cheshire, where she works as a team of three alongside “Maz” the MZ770E risograph printer and Barney the ragdoll cat. Her work is incredibly vibrant and greatly inspired by architecture, geometry, pattern and typography - all of which feature heavily in her designs.
What is your earliest creative memory?
Making handmade cards for everyone in the family at Christmas - younger me would've never thought I'd be doing it for a living in the future!!
What fires your imagination?
Architecture, travel, experiencing colour within the environment, flicking through design books!
What Super Seconds deals should we look out for from you?
Lots of vibrant risograph prints particularly one-offs and samples - also the return of the surprise greetings card bundles!
I think you'll all agree that the zing of vibrant colour in Abby's work is a much needed mood booster in this rather grey and chilly morning here in the UK, at least where I am! Colour can be such a powerful tool in lifting spirits and putting that skip back in your step and Abby's crisp clean and beautifully bold geometric designs would give anyone a massive case of heart eyes. So why not pop on over to her shop and recce it out ready for the big Super Seconds Festival event on 1st and 2nd April, hope to see you all there!!
