In what seems like the blink of an eye we have already entered the week of Super Seconds Festival, which kicks off in full force this weekend from 10am! With 250 makers to explore you really are spoilt for choice with ceramics, glass, prints, homewares, jewellery and more, there really is something for everyone. Super Seconds Festival is a wonderful example of collaboration over competition, showcasing the diverse and joyous world of the maker community, so much stronger when we lift each other up. With that in mind I think it's about time for another maker interview, I have the great pleasure of introducing you all to Bird House Press....
Bird House Press creates stationery focused products, featuring adorable kawaii inspired original characters, spreading joy, creativity, and cuteness one design at a time! Bird House Press started in 2010 with screen-prints, but has been making and crafting for many years before this.
If you could pick one piece of music to listen to as you make what would it be?
A good cheesy 90s pop playlist!
What is your earliest creative memory?
I can remember being 5 or 6 making little illustrated books (which was just small square paper note stapled together) about different garden birds!
What fires your imagination?
A fun idea! I love thinking of something that makes me smile and creating illustrations that go with it. Recently - this was creating my ‘Stationery Quest’ collection that I launched at Stationery Quest. 3 of my original characters, dressed for a stationery adventure, and collecting quest badges along the way!
What's the best mistake you've ever made? Creative or otherwise..
A couple of years ago I was on holiday with my wife, driving around Oregon. I took the wrong exit off the highway - and pulled into a small town, just as we were heading back to the highway, we spotted two large animals at the side of the road on the grass verge, as we got closer, turned out to be a moose and her calf! We were able to pull into the side of the road, and watched them meander across the road and off into the trees. Magical - and would have been missed had I not taken the wrong exit!
What Super Seconds deals should we look out for from you?
I’ve got a lot of ‘Super Specials’ which are products that are perfect, and not seconds such as enamel pins, and keyrings / charms, that I’m offering at a great discount because I’m looking to move the direction of Bird House Press to a more stationery focused base.
